Is My Hard Drive Failing or Can It Still Be Saved?

I recently ran CrystalDiskInfo and while my SSDs show a perfect health rating of 100%, my 1TB HDD is showing a caution status. I have a lot of important data on that HDD, so I'm worried. Does this mean my HDD is on its way out? I don't have a backup solution at the moment, so I'm really concerned about losing everything. By the way, my HDD model is Seagate ST1000LM035-1RK172, which has around 1000.2 GB capacity.

You definitely need to back up your data! If your HDD is showing caution, it could be a sign of potential failure. Reallocated sectors mean that the drive has encountered some errors and it usually doesn't recover from that. It's better to play it safe and back up what you can. Mechanical issues or defects are common for HDDs, and they can stop working unexpectedly. A data recovery service will cost way more than just getting a new HDD, so be cautious! If you can't buy a new drive right now, at least unplug your current one and store it securely until you can. Just in case!

Totally agree! Once an HDD starts showing signs of failure, it can kick the bucket without much notice. Make that backup fast!

Sounds like your HDD is failing. Seriously, back your data up, and if it’s under warranty, definitely consider an RMA—it's better than risking data loss!

If it seems to be working fine, you might be okay for now. But keep an eye on those reallocated sectors. If the count goes up, you should definitely think about replacing it soon.

Exactly! I'm currently managing to move some files around on mine, and it seems fine. But if I see those reallocated sectors spike, I’m running for the hills!

I've had the same model in my laptop, and let me tell you, it's not the best. It was super slow and would crash on me all the time. Formatting helped me out, but the crucial part is to back up your data ASAP. You won't want to lose anything important. Reflecting on this post makes me think I should check my drive's health again too!

Definitely check it out! My backup game was weak, and I regretted it. Don't be like me!
