Is My Home Server Setup Overkill?

I'm putting together a home server that I want to use for Jellyfin, Immich, and a few Docker containers, as well as playing around with some small AI models. Since I'm new to building a home server (and building PCs in general), I'm concerned that my setup might be overkill. I plan on having two devices transcoding simultaneously, with a maximum of six at any one time. Additionally, I'm curious about the reliability of refurbished drives from ServerPartDeals – do they typically last as long as new ones? Here's a breakdown of my planned components: CPU, cooling, RAM, storage, video card, case, power supply, and more, totaling around $2246.14. Would love some feedback on how to potentially minimize the load if my build is indeed excessive!

Honestly, your CPU and RAM are way more than what’s needed for a home server setup. If you're planning to use some AI models, you could keep the CPU but dropping the RAM to 32GB would be a smart move. For better AI performance, consider switching to an Nvidia GPU, like the 5060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM. Also, that motherboard is pretty pricey and you probably don’t need all its features unless you have specific use cases. And yeah, make sure your HDDs for storage are sorted out too!

Thanks for the tips! By the way, when you say 'have my HDDs sorted,' do you mean I should check if I have them listed somewhere? Also, would it be feasible to start with a 32GB set (2x16GB) and expand to another set later? And how can I choose a better CPU and motherboard to ensure I'm not overdoing it?
