I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad 320 from 2017, with a 64-bit architecture, Intel Celeron CPU (1.10 GHz), and 4 GB of RAM. It's been slow and I can't upgrade to Windows 11 or install new updates. First off, can my laptop handle Linux Mint? Second, should I use the built-in software installer despite it not having the latest versions of programs, or is it better to download directly from their websites? Lastly, how complicated is the installation process?

You should definitely check out the Mint Xfce version. I've been using it on a similar Celeron processor with 4GB of RAM, and it performs much better than Windows 10 did. It’s a solid choice for your laptop!
For your laptop, yes, Mint Xfce is the way to go since it's lighter on resources. As for installing software, stick to Mint's repositories where possible. If you need a newer version, Flathub is a good option. Just be cautious with downloading anything from external websites! And the installation? It's straightforward, especially for beginners.
I'm really new to all of this, so it sounds a bit overwhelming!

What if the program is only available on the official website? Is that safe to download?
