Is My Laptop’s Sound System Toast?

Hey everyone, I need some help with my laptop's audio issues. I'm using a Dell Precision 3570, which is equipped with a Core i7-1265U CPU, an NVidia T550 GPU, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB SSD. It dual-boots Windows 11 and CachyOS (Linux). Recently, I tried connecting a large speaker to the headphone jack using an adapter, but I didn't get any sound from it. Now, Windows isn't recognizing the built-in speakers at all, and the microphone and headphone jack aren't working either. This happens both in Windows and Linux, so I doubt it's just a driver issue. I've restarted multiple times and checked the UEFI settings, but nothing seems to work. Could my sound system be done for? What should I do?

It sounds like you might have overloaded the onboard amplifier by connecting the large speaker directly to the headphone jack. It's risky to use that jack for non-powered speakers like that. Another possibility is that something could be stuck in the port that’s making your laptop think there’s still a headset connected, or the port itself might be damaged.

Just to clarify, when you say 'drive,' do you mean you were just sending the audio signal and not trying to power the speaker? I’m wondering if I fried the amp, would that mean I'd have to get my motherboard repaired? I heard from another source that could be the case.
