Is My Motherboard Broken or Is There Another Issue with My Ryzen Upgrade?

I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5700X3D, but I'm only getting about 3300 points in CPU Z benchmarking and 7000 points in Cinebench R23. This is really low – around half of what I expected! I've tweaked my BIOS, updated drivers, and tried using Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO), but I'm still not seeing any improvements. My motherboard is a B550M Asus TUF. I thought upgrading the CPU would solve the problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can anyone offer suggestions? I can even screen share if needed!

What are your other hardware specs? And how are the temperatures looking when you benchmark? If the cooler isn't working right, you might see those lower scores. Also, double-check if there's any EXPO or DOCP setting enabled in the BIOS so your RAM runs at its intended speed.

I have 32GB of 3600MHz RAM, an RX 6650 XT, and a 650W 80 Plus Gold PSU. My NVMe storage is 1TB. I monitored the temps while benchmarking, and they never went above 60°C during those runs. I even reapplied thermal paste when I switched CPUs. My RAM is set to DOCP, which is like XMP for Intel, right?

The good news is your motherboard is likely fine! It sounds like there could be a different issue affecting your performance rather than a hardware failure. Maybe check your CPU cooler installation; if it's not seated correctly, that could lead to overheating and poor benchmarking results. Also, make sure your RAM settings are configured properly in the BIOS, like enabling EXPO, to get the right speeds.

I've been experiencing stutters during long gaming sessions and hear sounds like devices plugging and unplugging, but nothing's actually disconnecting. This has me worried. Any advice?

Have you tried running a memtest? It's a simple way to check if your RAM is causing the issue. You can use tools like MemTest86, and it will help you pinpoint any memory-related problems.

How do I actually run a memtest?
