Is my old power supply safe to use for a new PC build?

I'm in the process of building a new PC with a Ryzen 5 9600X processor and a Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card. I want to reuse my old desktop case and power supply (PSU), which is a 14-year-old Seasonic SS-400FL 400-Watt fanless unit. Since the system's total wattage is estimated to be around 344 watts, I'm wondering if it's worth trying to use this old PSU or if I should just invest in a new, higher-capacity power supply. What are your thoughts?

Honestly, using a 14-year-old PSU isn't the best idea. Capacitors degrade over time, even if the unit hasn't been used a lot. An old PSU is a risk - it could end up damaging your new components. I recommend getting a new power supply instead.

But what if I just test it out? Could I really fry my new parts?

I see your point, but if you're only working with a 160W GPU, couldn't it work okay?

For sure, time for a new PSU. The old one isn't worth the headache. Don't take chances with your new components.

Just throw that old PSU away. You can find a decent new one for a reasonable price that will be much safer for your new setup. It's not worth the risk.

Yeah, I'd skip the old PSU for a new build. It's designed for lower wattage, and your system could push it to its limits. Plus, since it's fanless, it might overheat. Better to invest in a reliable power supply now than risk ruining your hardware later.
