Is My PC Build Overkill for 4K Gaming?

Hey everyone! I'm new to building PCs and haven't played PC games since Counter Strike was just a Half-Life mod. I'm aiming to game at 4K on my Samsung s90d 65" TV while also getting the best value for my budget. I visited Micro Center with a $2000 budget, and here's what they suggested:

- Ryzen 7 9800x3d
- PowerColor Rx 9070 XT Reaper
- Asus B650E-E AM5 ATX
- Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5
- Samsung 990 Pro 2TB Gen4
- Corsair 3500x ATX Mid-Tower
- Corsair Nautilus 360 Rs 360mm AIO
- MSI A850GL 850 watt 80 plus gold

With Windows 11, the total came to $2,079, which is fine by me. I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve this setup or save some money without significantly sacrificing performance. Any tips for when I actually start building would also be appreciated! I've watched tons of videos, but having some interactive help would be amazing. Thanks!

Overall, it’s not a bad deal, especially if they’re offering to assemble it for you. You've got a top-tier CPU and GPU with solid mid-tier components around them. If you like the assembly process, building it yourself will be a fun experience!

I can't wait to build it myself—it's part of the fun for me!

You could probably save around $100-$150 on the SSD, case, and cooler without noticing any difference in performance. It's worth checking out some alternatives for those parts!

That's great advice, I'll definitely look into it. I want my build to look nice too since I'm spending so much!

I'm also waiting for Amazon Prime Day to see if I can score some deals. Micro Center said they would price match.

Your build seems pretty solid but is a bit cookie cutter for high-end gaming. You might save money by going with cheaper RAM, a simpler case, and a less extravagant cooler. Also, consider the Ryzen 7800X3D if you're looking to cut costs further. Micro Center has great bundles, so check if they have one that includes those CPUs!

Thanks for the heads up! Yes, I got this as part of a bundle.

If you play a lot of multiplayer games, the CPU is important, but if you don't, consider investing more in the GPU instead. You could potentially save big this way! What upcoming games are you excited about?

Absolutely! I'm really looking forward to Battlefield 6 and I'm currently addicted to Hunt Showdown.

Using PCPartPicker to compare your parts is super helpful. You've got a nice GPU and CPU combo; Micro Center did well recommending those. To save a bit:
- Use one of their bundles.
- Make sure your RAM is rated 6000MT 30CL.
- You could find Windows 11 keys online, but it’s a bit against advice.
- The Samsung 990 Pro is pricey; any Gen 3 or 4 NVMe will be just as fast for gaming.
- For cooling, a good air cooler would work fine for the 9800X3D.
- For a budget case, check out the Lian Li 207!

Great tips! I'll keep that in mind when I start building.

Regarding the 9070 XT, it can handle 4K gaming, but if you want to play at ultra settings with ray tracing, you might want to think about looking into the next-gen GPUs like the 5080. Just a heads up, this would increase costs significantly! But if you're okay with lowering some settings, the 9070 XT is a solid choice.
