Is My PSU Powerful Enough for a GPU Upgrade?

Hey everyone! I have an older power supply unit (PSU) from 2020 that's part of my ASUS ROG Strix pre-built system. It's a silver-colored one with some colored cables. According to the manufacturer's website, it has a wattage rating of 500 to 550 watts and is bronze certified. Currently, I'm using a GTX 1650, but I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU to either an RTX 2080 or a 3060/70 in the near future. Should I be looking to upgrade my PSU as well when I make that change?

It's generally a smart move to replace the PSU that comes with pre-built systems since they're often lower quality. A 550w PSU is really on the weak side for a gaming rig. I’d recommend getting at least a 750W unit, preferably an 850W one. You might want to check a PSU tier list to find a quality one. Just take the plunge and get a solid PSU!

Got it! Any specific recommendations for a 750W+ PSU?
