I'm planning to buy a 4070 Ti for $450 from a friend, but I have an R9 5900X. Do you think I should upgrade my CPU, or is it good enough as is? Any advice would be appreciated!

No need to upgrade! Your R9 5900X has plenty of power, especially for 1440p or even 4K gaming. At 1080p, any bottleneck will be minor and isn’t worth spending extra cash on a new CPU.
Your CPU is totally fine for the 4070 Ti. I know someone with a 5800X and a similar GPU setup and it runs perfectly at 1440p. You're good to go with your current system!
Honestly, don’t bother upgrading your CPU. Doing so would require a new mobo and DDR5 RAM, which is super pricey right now. Stick with what you have!

Nah, just overclock your CPU a bit! Using Precision Boost Overdrive from the BIOS should give you a nice performance boost without the need for a new processor.
