Is My RAM CL 48 a Bottleneck for My PC Build?

Hey everyone! I'm currently building my PC and bought a DDR5 RAM stick rated at 6000 MT/s with a CAS latency of 48, without doing much research beforehand. I've read some threads that suggest it might be pretty slow. Here are the specs of my build: an 850W PSU, a Ryzen 5 9600X CPU, a 5070 Ti GPU, and a 2TB Samsung Evo 990 SSD. I'm wondering if this slower RAM will significantly impact the performance of my system. Should I return it, or is it okay to keep it? Thanks for your help!

I recently switched from 6000 MT/s CL40 RAM to 6000 MT/s CL30, and the change was more impactful than I expected! I play at 4K, and just tightening the latency improved my experience rating in one game significantly. Your GPU and CPU matter most, but don't skimp on the RAM if you're investing in the rest of your build!

I recommend returning that RAM and getting a couple of 32GB sticks with a CL30 rating at 6000 MT/s. You've got a solid CPU and GPU there, and you definitely don't want a single slow RAM stick holding back your performance. Trust me on this one!

Totally agree with this! Good RAM can make a big difference.

Honestly, RAM speed isn't the end of the world. Sure, it might be worth spending a little more to avoid the absolute cheapest option, but for most users, it’s GPU and CPU performance that matters more. If you're not doing anything super demanding, you might be okay with what you have. Just remember, CL ratings don’t tell the full story without frequency in mind.

But you can't ignore latencies completely! Especially with DDR5, having lower CAS latency can help, even if it's subtle.

Yeah, just make sure whatever you go for is at least 6000 MT/s. It's usually worth it.

You'll probably see a noticeable difference in both average frame rates and 1% lows with games. I suggest returning that RAM and picking up the 6000 MT/s CL30 instead. It won’t be a game-changer, but every bit helps, especially when it comes to gaming performance. Plenty of tests show the impact RAM can have, so don’t leave performance on the table when a little extra cost could boost your experience!
