Is My RTX 4080 SUPER’s Hotspot Temp Too High at 91°C?

Hey folks! I'm using a Gigabyte RTX 4080 SUPER Gaming OC 16G and I've been keeping an eye on the temperatures during full load operations. Here's what I'm seeing:

- GPU Temp: Around 75°C
- Hotspot Temp: Averages about 91°C
- Memory Temp: Stays at 66°C
- Fan Speed: Running at 100% (all three fans)
- Board Power Draw: Between 300-360W
- GPU Voltage: Fluctuates around 1.070-1.095V

This is in a case with decent airflow (Antec C5 Fish case), which I have set up for positive pressure. I've got several intake and exhaust fans going, so airflow shouldn't be the culprit. Here's the weird part – when I had the GPU in a different case (Sharkoon REV100) and laid it flat on my desk, the temperature never went above 60°C.

Also, I'm experiencing stability issues: some games crash or freeze, and I get temperature or overclock errors even though I'm running everything at stock settings. I've filed a support ticket with Gigabyte and provided a GPU-Z log from a 10-minute load session.

So my questions are:
- Is a 91°C hotspot temp normal for this GPU under 100% fan speed?
- Has anyone else experienced significant temp drops by simply changing the case orientation?
- Should I consider RMA-ing this because of potential cooler contact issues?

Thanks for any insights!

Changing case orientation can indeed have a dramatic impact on GPU temperatures. It’s possible the cooler isn’t making a proper seal, so RMA-ing it for that reason might be a good idea. But also, always ensure that your thermal paste is fresh if you're comfortable replacing it.

That makes total sense! It’s fascinating how such a simple change can affect temp outcomes. Good luck, and keep us updated!

Typically, a hotspot temp of 91°C isn't ideal for any GPU, and for the RTX 4080 SUPER, it seems like it might be running a bit hot. It could potentially indicate the need for new thermal pads or thermal paste, though the card is relatively new. Your case airflow setup seems solid, considering the number of fans you're using. I find it strange that it hit 91°C with the fans at full speed while in that solid airflow configuration.

If you're not keen on dismantling your GPU, you might want to try undervolting it. It can help manage the temperature without having to physically take it apart.

I hear you on that airflow setup; it sounds well thought out. Rest assured, I think you should check that cooler contact—it might be crucial here.
