Is My RX 7800 XT Dead? Getting Code 43 After Driver Update

I'm dealing with an issue on my XFX RX 7800 XT and need some help confirming if it's a hardware failure before I go for RMA. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 7600X, ASUS B650-Plus, a 750W Gold PSU, and I'm running Windows 11 24H2. The GPU was functioning normally until I updated the AMD drivers — then the system started freezing. Currently, the system sometimes hangs at the ASUS logo before Windows even loads, and in Device Manager, the GPU shows Code 43. After using DDU in safe mode, I can boot, but the Code 43 persists. I've tried out HDMI and DisplayPort, switched PCIe slots, forced PCIe Gen3 in BIOS, reset BIOS to defaults, disabled ReBAR, and checked the PSU cables. Crucially, when I remove the RX 7800 XT and use just the iGPU from the 7600X, everything runs smoothly. With the freezing that occurs even before Windows starts, I'm beginning to think I might have a dead GPU, possibly a VRAM or PCIe controller issue. Is there anything else I should check before proceeding with the RMA?

One thing to note is that changing BIOS settings or disk setups carries risks. Make sure you have backups of your data before making any changes to your system configuration. This will save you a lot of headaches if something goes wrong!

When you ran DDU, did you go back to a previous driver that worked? If the Code 43 still appears after that, it’s definitely a sign something is up. Some people have had success using older drivers, and it might be worth a shot. If your system works fine with the Basic Display Adapter but crashes with the AMD driver, it suggests a deeper issue with the GPU.

It sounds like your GPU might be on its last legs. If you can, test the card in a different PC. That way, you can rule out any weird issues with your setup. If it still doesn't work elsewhere, it’s likely a failing GPU. Sorry to say, but it seems like a standard graphics card death scenario here.
