Is my Ryzen 7 5800X enough for gaming until the next CPU generation?

I built my PC in 2023 and it features a B550 Gaming Edge Plus motherboard, a Ryzen 7 5800X, and 32 GB of DDR4-3600 RAM. Since then, I've upgraded my GPU from an RX 6600 to an RX 9060 XT, and more recently to a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070. I game on a 1440p ultrawide monitor at 240 Hz. I primarily play CPU-intensive games and I'm excited about some MMORPGs that are set to release soon. I'm wondering if I should save up to upgrade to the AM5 platform for a 7800X3D/9800X3D now, or if it's better to wait for the AM6 generation?

With your current setup, there's no immediate need to upgrade unless performance dips significantly in the games you love. You might consider focusing on GPU upgrades if you're aiming for high settings and 240 FPS in demanding games.

Sounds like your 5800X is still potent for gaming right now. However, given that tech cycles can take a while, waiting for a newer generation might be more beneficial. The AM6 isn’t expected until 2029 or later!

Upgrading from a 5600X to a 7800X3D was a huge leap for me, especially with CPU-heavy games like WoW. It’s really about your gaming needs; if you’re content with your setup, you might want to hold off.

Exactly! Upgrading just because the new stuff is out isn't always necessary if your current equipment is doing the job.

If you're satisfied with your current frame rates, there's no need to rush an upgrade. However, you might notice a significant performance boost in some games if you do switch. For titles like Monster Hunter and Helldivers, which can be a bit demanding, an upgrade could improve your experience.

I'm okay with my current frame rates, but in those few poorly optimized games, I can dip to around 50-60 FPS on max settings. But for most others like Forza Horizon 5 or Battlefield 6, I'm getting over 100 FPS.

It's probably wise to wait for the second wave of AM6. Consider whether you've had to lower your settings or experienced CPU bottlenecks lately. Personally, I'm using a 5800X3D and an RTX 4070, and I feel confident sticking with my setup until at least 2027.

Your 5800X should handle most games quite well for a while longer. Plenty of gamers are still using older Ryzen CPUs without significant issues. If you’re getting decent performance, you’re probably good for now, unless specific upcoming games start demanding more.
