I'm trying to figure out which CPU would be better for my needs: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D or the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. I'm planning to stream games while also having applications like Discord and chat open. I won't be multitasking heavily, but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice since I'm new to building PCs. Additionally, I'm curious if I should wait for the rumored Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, and if so, whether it would likely be more expensive than the current 9950X3D. Also, I have a 4K monitor and an RTX 4080, so I want to ensure that I can handle 4K streaming as well.

Honestly, both these CPUs are overkill for what you're doing. Even older generations could handle your streaming and gaming tasks without a hitch.

Good to know! Just wanted to make sure I could manage 4K streaming with my current setup.

If you’re thinking about the future, the rumored 9950X3D2 could be priced around $900 to $1000. But it’s hard to say if it would be worth it. I’d just go with the 9800X3D or 9850X3D now since both will meet your needs.

Thanks for the heads-up! Sounds like I’ll be safe with either the 9850 or 9800 for now.

Either CPU should work well for your setup. You don’t need to go for the highest end option unless you have very specific needs.

Thanks for the insight! Since I’m using a 4K monitor with an RTX 4080, will that still be enough power for streaming?

If you’re primarily gaming and streaming without heavy additional tasks, the 9850X3D might be sufficient. The extra cores on the 9950X3D really shine only if you're running lots of resource-heavy plugins. Also, don’t hold your breath for the 9950X3D2; there's no solid info on its release.

Appreciate the advice! Just trying to gauge whether I’d really need that extra performance.

The 9950X3D will definitely handle all your tasks with some extra power for future-proofing, especially if you're gaming at 4K.

That’s reassuring! I want to make sure I won’t run into any issues down the line.
