Is switching from Windows 11 to Linux worth it for my laptop?

I have a laptop currently running Windows 11, but I've been hearing a lot about Linux and I'm curious if switching would be beneficial. My laptop seems to have slowed down since the upgrade to Windows 11, and I don't really see the point in downgrading back to 10 since I think that option is off the table for me now. I'm wondering if it's my hardware that's the issue or if a new OS could help. Here are my specs: AMD Athlon Gold 3150U with Radeon Graphics, 8 GB RAM (5.92 GB usable), and I'm running a 64-bit OS. I mainly use my laptop for studying and gaming. Any suggestions on improving its performance?

Switching to a lighter Linux distribution could potentially make things feel faster since it's less resource-intensive than Windows 11. However, keep in mind that while Linux might be less demanding on your hardware, it won't improve your hardware capabilities. As for gaming, if you're using Steam with Proton, you can run many games on Linux, but it might be a hassle for titles that don't have a native version.

Okay thank you. I can look into that :)!!

Considering you have 8 GB of RAM, moving to a lightweight OS would likely speed things up. But gaming on Linux can be a challenge; it might not be the best fit for your needs as a gamer. I recommend checking if you can add more RAM to your laptop for a noticeable performance boost.

Thanks! Thinking about adding RAM.

Your laptop specs are on the lower end for today's demands, but Windows 11 might actually run a bit better on your system than an updated Windows 10. Still, performance issues will likely persist due to your dual-core processor and the limited RAM (especially with some of it reserved for graphics). Upgrading to at least 16 GB of RAM and getting an SSD would significantly enhance your experience.

Okay cool thanks! Honestly been needing to get an SSD for a while.
