Is Switching to Linux a Good Idea for a Beginner Like Me?

Hey everyone! I've been using Windows 10 for about three years now, and I'm starting to get curious about Linux. I really want to learn more about how my computer works, and I'm also dabbling in coding. I've heard that Linux is great for coding, but I do play some games like Roblox and Minecraft, which I've heard can be tricky on Linux, especially the ones with anti-cheat systems. It's not a major concern since I don't play those games much anymore.

I'm thinking of making the switch but I'm honestly a bit nervous about losing everything on my computer and can't decide between different Linux distributions—I'm looking at Mint and Ubuntu since they seem beginner-friendly. Eventually, I want to dive into Arch Linux for the total freedom it offers. Any advice on what I should consider before switching or any tips on which distro to choose?

I just switched to Linux a few weeks ago myself and haven’t looked back! I’m playing Helldivers 2 on Pop!_OS, and it runs great. Mint is awesome too if you’re worried about looks—it plays well with games.

You sound like a perfect candidate for Linux! Just make sure to back up everything and try out a couple of distros. You’ll discover some games work fine with anti-cheat on Linux, though it varies by game. Good luck!

If you're okay with not playing competitive games, definitely give Linux a shot! I’ve been using Mint for gaming, and I’ve found it works really well for that. There’s also a Roblox launcher called 'Sober' on Flathub, so games can still be played.

Just go for it! If you don’t like Linux, you can always revert back to Windows. It’s an adventure worth trying!

Definitely back up your files first! Make a bootable USB for Windows in case you need to reinstall it later. You can try different distros without commitment, so feel free to switch around. I’d suggest starting with Ubuntu; it’s super easy for newcomers.
