I upgraded my system in 2019 when I got the 2070 Super at its original price. Now that I'm working in game development and finally able to consider upgrading again, I'm wondering if my setup is still sufficient. Currently, I'm gaming at 1440p and don't have any plans for 4K, but I worry that my GPU might be holding me back. I noticed some performance improvements after adding an SSD, but I'm concerned that I'm going to spend more time optimizing my code than actually developing. Is it worth upgrading to something like a 5060 or should I wait until later in the year to see if better options come up? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

If your performance isn't cutting it and you have the cash to upgrade, then go for it! Just skip the 5060; it's not a significant jump from the 2070 Super. Consider looking at the 5070 or something similarly powerful instead.
In setups like yours, generally, you should prioritize upgrades like this:
1. CPU: Affects compile times and overall performance in the dev environment.
2. GPU: Impacts viewport rendering and modern graphical features.
3. RAM: Only becomes critical if you're hitting its limits.
The 2070 Super can still work for you but may feel a bit stretched for modern development tasks. With your recent SSD upgrade, you’ve already seen how much of a bottleneck your setup could have been. Waiting a bit before upgrading isn’t a bad idea, but don’t let that stall your productivity! A midrange upgrade later this year could significantly boost your performance without breaking the bank.
I had a similar setup with a 2070 Super, a 5600X CPU, and 32GB RAM running at 1440p. Upgrading to a 5070 was one of the best choices I've made! It really enhanced my development experience.
Good to know a higher GPU like the 5070 makes such a difference! I'm definitely leaning towards that now.

Great breakdown! It sounds like I need to assess my CPU too. Maybe focusing on VRAM is the way to go for now.
