Hey everyone! I originally was considering the 9950X3D for my build but realized it's probably overkill for what I need. I'm mainly looking at gaming, day trading applications (like Thinkorswim), streaming shows, and multitasking. From what I've read, the 9800X3D seems to fit my needs better. Before I make a decision, could you help me confirm whether the 9800X3D is still a solid value and future-proof choice?
The bundle with the 9800X3D includes 32GB of G.Skill RAM and an ASUS B650-E TUF motherboard for $650. Alternatively, I can upgrade to an MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk for an additional $50.
On the flip side, the 9950X3D comes with the same 32GB RAM but has an MSI X670E-P Pro motherboard for $800, and I can swap to a Gigabyte X670E Aorus Elite for another $50.
I'm curious if going with the 9800X3D will limit future NVMe needs or anything else, especially since I'd like this build to last me another decade with minimal upgrades. I've heard some associates mention that the 9950X3D mobos might be more future-proof, but I'm unsure!

I'd lean towards the 9800X3D; it's a solid pick for what you want. Oh, and don’t go with that TUF board—hated mine and had to return it! Grab something like the MSI X670E for reliability. You’ll be set for a long time with the 9800 if you're mostly gaming!
I'm in the same boat. My computer is mainly for working from home while my husband games at night. Initially, I thought the 9950X3D was the way to go, but it might be overkill for our needs. I’d suggest working with the cheaper bundle; you can always upgrade later if necessary!
Honestly, if you're looking for smooth multitasking while gaming, the 9950X3D is a powerhouse, but it might be more than you need if it's mainly gaming and browsing. The 9800X3D should handle your day-to-day just fine, especially since you won't be maxing out your system. I've been running a 9800X3D with Discord and streaming, and it's been great! You just have to be mindful of core parking if you’re gaming during multitasking.
For pure gaming, the 9800X3D is a fantastic choice, ranking right below the 9950X3D. I'd recommend saving some cash and investing it in a better GPU instead. And honestly, those bundled parts can be hit or miss, so do your research to ensure they're worth it.
Good point about the 9800X3D being more than enough for gaming. Plus, the price difference could go towards a better GPU, which will benefit you more. And don’t worry about the motherboard—PCIe 5.0 might not matter for your average usage. Stick with the more affordable bundle, and it’ll work perfectly!
I hear you on that! But it's important to note that with core parking, the performance might drop a bit when gaming. It mostly just uses the 9800X3D’s power in that scenario. So, unless you really plan on doing heavy background tasks while gaming, the 9800 should suffice.
