I'm considering the A520M-HDV motherboard for a low-budget PC build, but I'm unsure if it's too old to invest in. It seems like the board was launched around 10 years ago, and I'm worried it might not receive support down the line. If you have any more recent micro-ATX alternatives within the same price range, I'm all ears! Also, since I'm new to building PCs, I may have some misconceptions. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, the A520M-HDV is on the lower end of the spectrum. I suggest looking at options like the B550M Pro-VDH or the B550M VC. They're higher quality and can even handle 16-core CPUs if you decide to upgrade in the future. Trust me, they’re worth the slight increase in price!
The A520M-HDV is actually part of the newest 500 series chipsets for the AM4 socket, so it's as current as you can get for that platform. While the 300 and 400 series are older, the 500 series is still viable. The A520 is entry-level, so you might consider a B550 board if you want better features like PCIe Gen 4 support. However, if you're sticking to AM4 and DDR4 given your budget, the A520M shouldn't be a bad choice at all!

Are the B550M boards better just because they are MSI, or would you say options like the ASRock B550 Pro4 are just as good?
