Is the AZ-900 Exam Right for Me?

I'm 36 years old and considering a career change to improve my current salary, which is around $55K. I've been looking into the AZ-900 exam but have some doubts based on my past experiences. Back in high school, I struggled to pass the CompTIA A+ exam despite putting in a lot of effort, and my brief time working in IT didn't go well either. I have a degree in business, but I was overwhelmed by my more tech-savvy colleagues. I'm not the brightest, but I have managed to earn a few degrees over the years. So, what I really want to know is—based on my history and current standing, do you think I can handle the AZ-900 exam?

AZ-900 is more of an entry-level cert. It won’t land you a tech job right away, but it's a decent starting point. With your background, it might help you ease into the AZ-104 later on, which is more substantial. Just be aware, passing this alone won't guarantee you a job; networking is key in this industry.

I agree with this! The AZ-900 helps introduce some Azure concepts, so it can be a good confidence booster.

I think if you're using AZ-900 as a stepping stone, that's fine, but don't rely solely on it for your career change. It's a way to familiarize yourself with Azure, but remember that practical skills and networking will help you more in finding a job.

Honestly, if your main goal is to make more money, there are other career paths that could yield faster results, like plumbing or electrical work. But if you still want to give IT another shot, then the AZ-900 can help you ease back in without too much pressure. Just remember that it’s more about commitment and finding what you enjoy doing.

Certifications like the AZ-900 can be useful, but they are often undervalued by employers. What's more important is gaining practical experience. Working in a support role can provide you exposure that’s more valuable than a paper cert. Start building your skills and documenting your projects to land a better position in the future.

Thanks for this advice! I’ll focus more on getting hands-on experience.

All the 900 exams are pretty entry-level. If you have little experience, you can probably study for AZ-900 in about a week or even just a couple of days. It’ll teach you some product basics, but don’t expect it to lead directly to a job in IT.

Got it! I'm looking for a way into tech sales, so this might serve as a good first step.
