I'm considering a build that would be somewhat balanced, but I'm wondering if the Intel Core i9-14900KS is overkill for the ASUS ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming D4. I might go for the i9-14900KF instead if I can't overclock the KS version properly. I'm aware of the price differences, which is why I'm looking for a pre-owned option for the KS. What do you all think?

I wouldn't recommend it. Buying a used Raptor Lake CPU comes with risks like potential degradation. If your focus is gaming, you might want to consider an X670 board with the Ryzen 9 9800X3D instead. For a workstation, look at a Z890 board paired with a Core Ultra 270K.
