Is the Nvidia 5060 8GB a Good Choice for Gaming on a Budget?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using an RX 6700XT with 12GB VRAM but I'm thinking about switching to Nvidia due to some frustrating experiences. For instance, FSR 3.1 hasn't been working well for me, and I've had crashes while playing Monster Hunter. Plus, it feels like AMD isn't putting enough support into their cards lately.

My budget is tight, and I can either get a used or new 5060 8GB. My question is, is making the switch worth it? Losing 4GB of VRAM makes me nervous, especially with games demanding more and more from our hardware. I want to know if sacrificing VRAM for the features of an Nvidia card (like DLSS, Reflex, and ray tracing) is a smart move. Can I handle path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 without running into VRAM issues? Will I be able to max textures in other games? I really appreciate any insights you can provide, as I'm feeling a bit torn about this decision!

Looking at current prices, I'd recommend checking out the 5060 Ti 8GB instead. It's often just $20 more than the non-Ti version and offers significantly better performance. If you're on a budget, buying an 8GB card isn't the worst option right now, especially since many games are still being optimized for similar specs. You might need to adjust textures from ultra to high for more demanding titles, but DLSS does help a lot with performance. Don't let the worry over VRAM scare you off too much!

Great point! A 5060 Ti seems like a much smarter choice for the price.

Totally agree, 8GB still works fine in most games at 1080p!

You really should reconsider running FSR altogether if you're frustrated. And remember, path tracing is a hefty task even for high-end cards; it’s not going to be smooth on the 5060. A 6700XT's 12GB VRAM should let you run most games with high textures without issues. I'd check optimal settings to get the most out of your current setup before making a switch. Maybe save up a bit longer for a stronger upgrade!

Exactly, I had a solid experience with my 6700XT too.

Yeah, don’t rush into it unless you’re sure!

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend the 5060 for path tracing or demanding titles. You're looking at an entry-level GPU that isn't future-proof. Keep your 6700XT for now and save up for something better if you can. You may be able to find a used 4070 at a decent price too.

Totally agree, 8GB might not cut it in the future.

Yeah, I’d hold onto your current card if possible.

Switching to Nvidia could be worthwhile, especially if you're not satisfied with AMD. I think even a lower-end Nvidia card like the GT 750 would outperform some AMD cards in certain cases. That said, just make sure you’re making the switch for the right reasons!

That's a bold comparison, but I get your point!

True! Nvidia generally offers great tech support and features.
