I'm gearing up to buy the RX 9070 XT, my dream GPU, especially with rumors of price hikes looming. Right now, I'm using a DDR4 build that my dad got me two years ago. I'm worried about lag in my games at low settings on 1080p, and I want to know if I need to upgrade any other parts to prevent bottlenecking. Here's my setup:
- Motherboard: B350M Gaming Pro
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600
- RAM: DDR4 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro (currently stuck at 2133 MHz because BIOS tweaks led to blue screens)
- PSU: 600W Thermaltake
- Secondary Storage: 1.8TB HDD (considering an SSD as well)
- Cooling: Only two front fans plus the CPU cooler fan
Any advice would be super helpful!

I’d say definitely look into getting an SSD for faster load times, your computer will feel much snappier overall. And for cooling, adding more fans will improve airflow, especially since you're aiming for a high-performance build.
You might not have to upgrade immediately, but keep an eye on your PSU capacity. If you don’t want to spend too much, consider the RX 9070 (non-XT), which requires less power, and use the savings to upgrade your CPU. The Ryzen 5600 would be a great fit!
Your current CPU isn't ideal for the RX 9070. I recommend you grab a 750W PSU if you're going for the new GPU. Upgrading your CPU to something like a Ryzen 5800 would also help a ton, especially since your B350 motherboard supports it. Just make sure to update your BIOS first!
Totally agree! The 5800 will give you a significant boost. Just remember to set the RAM speed correctly in the BIOS to maximize performance.
Yeah, your CPU is going to hold you back a bit. For a solid upgrade, consider getting a Ryzen 5000 series CPU. I run a Ryzen 5700X with the RX 9070 XT on a 650W PSU and it works like a charm. Just be mindful of your 600W PSU; it might be close to the minimum you need.

Yes! Two fans aren't enough, especially if you're upgrading your components. At least two intake fans in the front and one exhaust will do wonders.
