Is the RX 9070 XT a Good Fit for My Current DDR4 Setup?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to snag the RX 9070 XT soon because I'm worried that prices might spike. Right now, I'm using a DDR4 setup that my dad bought for me a couple of years ago. I've been experiencing a lot of lag while gaming, even on low settings at 1080p, with only a few games running decently on medium settings. My current specs are: B350M Gaming Pro motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 CPU, AMD Radeon RX 6600 GPU, and 32 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR4 RAM (though it's stuck at 2133 MHz due to some BIOS issues). I'm also running a 600W Thermaltake PSU and have an old 1.8 TB HDD for storage. I'm wondering if the RX 9070 XT will work with my current build and if I need to upgrade any other components to avoid bottlenecking. Any advice would really help me out!

Your Ryzen 7 1700 is definitely going to hold back the RX 9070 XT's performance. I recommend upgrading to at least a Ryzen 5000 series CPU to match better with that GPU. Just keep an eye on your PSU too; the 600W might be pushing it a bit, especially if your system demands more power on load. My setup runs a 650W PSU fine with a similar GPU, so that could work.

Yeah, if you're going for the RX 9070, I’d suggest a quality PSU rated at least 750W to play it safe. An upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600X or similar would definitely complement that GPU nicely!

For your RAM speed issue, the Ryzen 1st gen has some quirks with higher MHz. You should try and set your RAM to 3200 MHz manually in the BIOS, but watch the voltage too, as many sets default to too low. And yeah, make sure you have enough airflow in your case with at least 2 intake and 1 exhaust fan to keep things cool!

Totally agree! Good cooling is crucial, especially with that new GPU! Get a few more fans if you can.

I think the RX 9070 XT will still give you a noticeable upgrade from your RX 6600 even with the 1700. But if you really want to maximize your experience, you'll want to upgrade that CPU soon. It’s also a good idea to consider investing in an SSD; it will speed up everything, including game load times.

That’s true! Just make sure to check if your motherboard supports the newer CPUs after you swap the BIOS.
