I'm gearing up to build a new PC and considering a Ryzen 9 9900X paired with a Radeon RX 9070 XT. My current setup, a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RTX 2060 Super, has served me well for the past six years, but it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for a mid-to-high-end build that won't feel outdated for the next 4-5 years. While my gaming is more casual now, I used to play games like Valorant and Apex frequently. I'm not planning on doing anything too intensive, but I do edit videos, draw illustrations, and there's a chance I might dive into more demanding games in the future. I considered the Ryzen 7 9700X but thought that for just a bit more, I could get the 12-core 9900X. For the GPU, the RTX 5070 would be good, but for the same price, I'd prefer the better RX 9070 XT. I'm curious whether this setup is overkill or just perfect for my needs. Would love to hear from others about this!

I just got the 9900X and 9070 XT, and I've noticed such a massive difference already from my old setup! It's exciting to see how it performs.
You could also consider alternatives like the 7800X3D or 9800X3D, which show higher FPS in benchmarks, but pairing the 9070 XT with the 9900X should still give you great performance. I initially had the 9800X3D but switched to a 9950X for better multitasking during my workflow. The 9900X is solid if you're looking for a top-tier experience now and later on.
I don't think it's overkill at all! If it's within your budget, why not go for the best specs? It'll handle whatever you throw at it for the next few years without struggle.
