Is the stock cooler enough for my Ryzen 5 5500 while gaming?

I'm curious if the stock cooler for my Ryzen 5 5500 will keep it cool enough during 1080p gaming, especially since I'm using an RX 6600 alongside it. Any insights on performance and temperature management?

It should work, but there’s a slight risk of thermal throttling. A buddy of mine had a 5600 with the stock cooler that hit 90°C+ during load, but after switching to a better cooler, he saw temps drop to around 60°C and a nice 22.7% boost in performance with Cinebench.

That's a solid point! I've noticed the same thing with my builds; better cooling really pays off.

For sure! It's wild how much a cooler can affect performance.

Definitely yes! But seriously, investing just $20 in an air cooler will give you a noticeable improvement.

You usually won't face thermal throttling with gaming on most CPUs, including the 5500.

You'll be fine with the stock cooler most of the time, but just a heads up, they can get a bit loud under heavy loads.

That was my setup about a year back – it cools, but expect mid to high 80°C under heavy load. Plus, it gets a bit loud, so if you can, consider spending around 20 bucks on a third-party cooler for a better experience!

I’ve got a Ryzen 5 5600 with the stock cooler, and it runs great. Just be aware that the 5600X is the one that often needs a better cooler.
