I've been using computers since the late '90s and have really come to rely on the middle mouse autoscroll feature, especially in web browsers and applications like Discord. However, after switching from Windows to Linux and trying out Manjaro Cinnamon, I was frustrated to find that the middle mouse click not only doesn't work as I expected but also pastes whatever is currently in the clipboard, leading to some embarrassing mistakes. I've researched ways to disable this feature but, from what I've found, it seems really entrenched in Linux environments. I'm looking for a distro that might offer a way to completely disable middle mouse paste without any complicated workarounds. Any suggestions?

If you're using KDE, you can actually disable middle-click pasting in the settings. There's also the option to allow mouse autoscrolling without conflict by adjusting the configuration, so you could have your autoscroll and no unintended pastes.
Most Linux distros allow you to change how your mouse buttons behave. You can likely find options to disable middle-click paste in your settings, or even through a custom configuration. It's worth looking into your desktop environment's mouse settings directly to see if that's an option.
I really want to avoid going through the hassle of setting things up just to disable that feature. I'd rather have it not exist at all.
In Bazzite, middle mouse paste doesn't seem to work by default. This might be a good option for you if you’re looking for a distro that doesn't hassle you with that feature. Plus, it’s user-friendly for new Linux users.
I've been meaning to check out Bazzite! Sounds like it might suit my needs perfectly.
KDE Plasma has some excellent options for managing mouse behavior, including autoscrolling, while allowing you to disable middle-click paste. You might find that using KDE or another similar desktop environment could solve your issues seamlessly!
Sounds promising! I'll definitely look into that.
I understand your frustrations! You could use XMousePasteBlock or edit your xorg.conf file to disable that specific functionality, but it sounds like you want a simpler solution! Still, research shows these functions vary widely based on different applications, so know that your mileage may vary.
I’ve tried XMousePasteBlock, and it didn’t work as I hoped. I really just want to find a distro that handles this better from the start.

That sounds like a solid solution! How do I access those settings?
