I've recently started using Linux Mint and I'm loving it! However, I'm wondering if there's a way to use WhatsApp on my system. I've tried out clients like Whatsie, but I noticed they don't support calls since they're based on WhatsApp Web. Are there any solutions or alternatives I should consider?

I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard that there are Android emulators out there that might allow you to run the official WhatsApp app. Just keep in mind that there can be issues with functionality on custom systems.

Yeah, but the official app has become pretty stringent with those. If you're using an emulator, you might run into problems trying to log in since they flag modded versions.

Unfortunately, there isn't an official native app for Linux; WhatsApp mainly pushes users toward the web version. Plus, trying to run the Windows version through WINE doesn't work since it's a Windows Store app. They've basically told us to stick with the web for now.

I used to get the old WhatsApp client to work through WINE or Bottles, but with the new version rolling out through the Microsoft Store, it’s a total hassle now. If it’s essential for you, maybe consider using a VM; that worked for me at my last job.

For a decent alternative, you might want to check out an app called ZapZap. I’ve been using it, and while it lacks some advanced features, it gets the job done for general messaging.

As of now, there aren't any custom WhatsApp clients available because WhatsApp is cracking down on mods. I did hear that they might be adding call features to WhatsApp Web soon, so that could be a future option.
