Is there any way to use a locked iPad I found at work?

So, I work at a restaurant and a couple of months ago, a guy came in, acted a bit strangely, and ended up leaving his iPad behind after dining and not paying his bill. We kept it charged for him just in case he needed to find it, but he hasn't returned. There's no way to contact him since he didn't have a reservation and Apple wasn't much help, just telling me to drop it off at the store. The other managers know my own iPad was stolen last year and said I could take this one. My question is, can I reset it and make it usable? Is there a way to wipe everything on it?

Nope, you really can’t do anything without the right codes. Kinda sucks, but I’d just return it if I were you. Better than getting into trouble over it.

Honestly, if you try to reset it without the correct codes, it’ll just go into activation lock. Best bet is to hand it in to the Apple Store. They might be able to get in touch with the owner if they have any identifying info.

You’re in a tricky spot. Technically, you can’t do much without the original sales receipt or the Apple ID password. It's tied to the previous owner's iCloud account, so without that info, you're stuck. You could try asking the original owner to remotely remove it from their account, but it might be a long shot.

Yeah, if they had given you the receipt and stuff, that might have worked, but otherwise, you're hitting a brick wall.
