Is This Burn Mark on My 9800x3D CPU Normal?

Hey everyone, I'm experiencing some pretty strange issues with my new PC, specifically with my 9800x3D CPU. I think I might have found what looks like a burn mark on the CPU socket. I built this PC just two months ago and initially, everything was great. But then I started noticing some odd behavior, like my RAM not showing up in Windows even though it was detected in the BIOS. After some troubleshooting, that seemed to fix itself, but things escalated from there.

I had weird keyboard issues while playing World of Warcraft—missing letters, but it would fix itself upon alt-tabbing. Now, my system won't boot without clearing the CMOS, and sometimes I get red and yellow lights for CPU and RAM. The smell around the PC has become unbearable, with hints of burning or chemicals. In the middle of all this, I attempted a memory test with Aida64, and while it seemed to work fine at first, I got an instant shutdown during another test. My head is spinning trying to figure out whether it's the motherboard, CPU, or GPU at fault. I'm sharing all this in hopes someone might have insights or similar experiences. Also worried about whether my GPU or other components might have sustained damage. What do you think?

If you haven't already, I recommend checking out the Windows Debugging Tool to analyze your dump files. It might help pinpoint the issue—many times, I found my problems through it rather than trial and error!

I’ve seen mentions of it but never used it. Where can I find that? I wiped my system recently, but I did check the event viewer. It’s really frustrating trying to figure this out.

Man, that's a bummer! I totally get your fears with the 9800x3D. I’ve heard of burn issues before, but it's usually after extended high-performance use. Since yours was fine for two months, though, that sounds more like a bad component than the CPU itself. Fingers crossed it’s just the motherboard—makes me nervous for my own build!

Exactly! I thought I was safe avoiding brands like Asrock, but here I am! Let's hope it’s just that and not the CPU itself.
