I'm thinking about building a new gaming PC and I've put together the following list: Intel Core i9-14900KF, Asus ROG STRIX B760-F motherboard, and an Asus RTX 5070 TI O16G graphics card. For memory, I've included 64 GB of Kingston FURY Beast DDR5 at 6000 Mhz and a Kingston NV3 1 TB M.2 SSD. To keep everything cool, I'm going with a Noctua NH-D15S cooler, and for power, I've chosen the Seasonic Focus GX-850-V4 850W ATX3.1. I plan to house everything in a Be Quiet! Pure Base 500DX case. Gaming is my main focus—99% of what I'll be doing. A friend suggested I might get a better deal going with AMD as it tends to be cheaper and stronger for gaming, but I'm not quite sure. What do you all think? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Definitely switch it to AMD. Since you're mostly gaming, something like the 7800X3D would be a solid choice. Just remember that while the 14900KF is powerful, it might be overkill and it does use more power, which can impact future upgrades down the line.
If you’re considering Intel, make sure to check how your specific GPU choice interacts with older games—some GPUs struggle with older titles. Overall, I’d lean toward AMD for a gaming-focused build. You'll get better value and performance, especially in newer titles.
For gaming, AMD really has the edge right now, especially with their AM5 setup. The i9 is strong, but if you want future-proofing without constantly upgrading motherboards, AMD's offerings, like the 9800X3D, are definitely worth considering. Plus, you can typically upgrade the CPU in a few years without needing to replace your entire setup.
Good call on the future-proofing! I’ve seen a lot of complaints about Intel's frequent changes to chipsets, and it’s just frustrating.
You might want to swap out that NH-D15 cooler for a new Peerless Assassin. It performs nearly as well for significantly less. Also, while the 14900KF is strong, the AMD alternatives often come at a better price point for gaming. Think about your budget and what you truly need that power for.
That’s true! I originally went with a very high-end cooler and found I didn’t even need it for gaming.
Honestly, you should totally listen to your friend. The i9-14900KF is more of a workstation CPU and tends to run hot—plus, it’s overkill for gaming. Something like the AMD 7800X3D would give you strong performance without breaking the bank. Also, you wouldn’t need 64 GB of RAM for gaming; 32 GB is usually plenty.
Yeah, I switched to AMD for my last build and I’ll never look back. Better performance and value, especially for gaming!
Absolutely! Newer GPUs from AMD perform really well across the board.
