I came across a gaming PC listed for $650 AUD (about $450 USD) and I'm wondering if it's a good deal. I'm 19 and studying IT, plus I enjoy gaming occasionally. Here's what the listing says:
- The motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD were all replaced last January, and there are no hardware issues.
- The seller is selling to save for an upgrade.
- They claim it can run all games at 1080p with a minimum of 100 FPS and can handle low-end 1440p games.
Here are the specs:
- 16 GB DDR4 RAM
- Intel i3-12100F CPU
- RTX 3050 GPU
- 600 Watt power supply
Do you think this is a solid purchase, or should I keep looking?

I tried the RTX 3050 when my 3060 broke and honestly, it didn’t perform well at all. I'd suggest looking for something better!
No way that runs all games at 100 FPS minimum at 1080p. I have a pretty high-end setup myself and even I struggle with newer games at stable FPS. The specs listed seem to be on the weaker side, especially if you're thinking long-term. That GPU is really low-end, and I can confirm that it struggles significantly with heavier games.
I wouldn’t recommend the deal mainly because the GPU isn’t great. If it were a 3060 or better, I might say it’s worth considering. The RAM prices are higher now, but I still think you could get better value elsewhere, especially considering the current secondary market pricing.
Honestly, I don't think this is a good deal. If you can manage to save a bit more, you might find a much better PC. The seller seems to be asking quite a bit for what you're getting, especially since it looks like they're offloading a computer that's not really future-proof for gaming.
This is great advice! What should I specifically avoid when searching for a new PC?

Exactly! If you're looking at graphics cards, the RTX 3050 isn’t going to cut it for future games. Save up a bit more, and you could find a much stronger system.
