A friend's younger brother has asked me to help him build his first PC. He'll pay for everything from his summer job, and I want to make sure we stick to a budget that won't break the bank while still delivering solid performance. I've had to make some compromises due to the high prices currently. Here's what I've chosen and I'd love to hear if this setup sounds reasonable or if I should make any changes:
- **GPU:** He wants to play various AAA games at 1440p, so I opted for the RX 9070 XT since it handles that well and should last for a while.
- **CPU:** I decided to stick with the AM4 platform to avoid the high costs of DDR5 RAM. While it might not be as future-proof, eventually he'll likely upgrade everything (motherboard, CPU, RAM) later on. I think the Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X would pair nicely with the 9070 XT, even with a slight potential bottleneck.
- **Motherboard:** I went with the ASUS TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS WIFI for a good price, with essentials like an ARGB header and WiFi. I've read that while the PCIe is only 3.0, it doesn't impact performance significantly.
- **RAM:** This could be a controversial choice, but I've seen builds with just one 16 GB stick that perform fine. It's a cheaper route now, and he can easily add another stick later on if prices drop.
I'm still considering the GPU choice, wanting to make sure he starts with something solid to be able to play without too much delay, despite the current market challenges.

Your build looks solid overall! I used a single 8GB stick of DDR4 for a long time and it performed well. Plus, I have a 9060 XT, which handles 1440p just fine on my ultrawide monitor. If budget is tight, the 9070 XT is a great choice for longevity, but the 9060 could save you some cash without sacrificing much performance.

Thanks for the feedback!
