I'm looking to get into video editing as a hobby, focusing on simple vlog editing. I'm considering the M4 MacBook Air but worry it might not see much use and end up gathering dust. Instead, I'm thinking about building a desktop that could also support gaming for titles like CSGO, LOL, and Valorant. I found a build on sale with the following specs: CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 8400F, 4.7GHz, 6 cores, 12 threads; MOBO: ASUS TUF GAMING A620M-PLUS WIFI; GPU: INNO3D NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 5070, 12 GB; RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 MHz; Storage: 1TB GEN 4 NVME SSD. I would love to hear your thoughts!

The RTX 5070 might be overkill if you're only gaming at 1080p. Consider a better CPU if you can save money with a cheaper GPU. That's really the way to go for a balanced build.

You should also think about your motherboard choice! I’m not keen on AMD motherboards below the B650 or B850 chipset for video editing or gaming. The power delivery can really affect performance, and a stronger board means more stability. If you can find a Ryzen 5 9600X3D and pair it with a B650 or B850 motherboard, along with a GPU like an RTX4060 or RX9060XT, you'd have a much better setup for both gaming and editing.

Yeah, this build is decent but keep an eye on that CPU. The AMD RYZEN 5 8400F is on the lower end for what you want. You might actually find the M4 Mac Mini outperforms this for most productivity tasks, except heavy GPU stuff like 3D modeling. I'd suggest spending a bit more on a better CPU and consider a less powerful GPU, like a 3060 or even a 5050 if you're trying to save some cash.

Totally agree! Just make sure if you go for the 3060, you get the version with more VRAM (like 12GB), it really helps for gaming and editing.
