I'm curious about upgrading my RAM from 5200MHz to 6000MHz purely for gaming. I've got a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU paired with an RTX 4080 GPU, and I'm running two 4K monitors. I've seen that upgrading could give me an extra 3-8 FPS, but I'm hesitant about spending £400 on CL30 6000MHz RAM. With GPU prices already high, I'm not expecting RAM prices to drop anytime soon. Should I just wait a few years for better prices, consider a lower CL RAM, or grab it now in case prices keep climbing? What do you all think?

I used to run 6000, but I switched back to the default 4800 speed. Honestly, I didn’t notice any difference. It’s not about maxing out your rig; I just needed something that works well for everything.
Really makes you question all those videos claiming huge FPS boosts!
Why did you go back to default speeds? Was it just simpler for regular use?
Absolutely not. If the RAM market was normal, I’d still say it’s not worth the upgrade.
Got it, thanks for confirming!
I took a look at 5200 CL40 vs. 6000 CL30 and even 7200 CL34 on a 7800X3D. The differences in FPS are minimal, especially at 1440p, and nearly nonexistent at 4k. If you’re looking to optimize, just go with whatever fits your budget and fits your needs.
Thanks. I've been seeing conflicting info, and I can't justify spending so much for marginal gains.
Nope, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading just for a jump from 5200 to 6000MHz. The performance boost just isn't significant enough for gaming.
Gotcha, thanks for the input!
X3D CPUs handle lower speed RAM surprisingly well. With the current price, £400 is way too much. If you want to enhance performance, you might explore some tweaks, but it's time-consuming and challenging.
Haha, 'masochistic nightmare' fits perfectly. I think I might just hold off.
Wait, are you talking about manual adjustments in BIOS or fiddling with the sticks?

Haha, yeah those videos seem too good to be true. Thanks for sharing!
