I'm considering whether it's really worth it to upgrade from the 9700X to the 9800X3D. Along with the CPU upgrade, I'd also need to switch my motherboard from a B650 to an X870. The whole upgrade would set me back around $800. Does anyone have insights on whether this investment is justified?

Honestly, if you’re mainly gaming, you probably don’t need to upgrade to the X870 motherboard. The 9700X is still a solid CPU for gaming, especially if you're not playing competitive titles that require the absolute highest frame rates.
It really depends on your game library. If you’re not missing out on features with the B650, stick with it. No point putting your budget into the X870.
I wouldn’t go for the 9800X3D just yet. Even with my high-end 12900K, I found that 3D cache CPUs only shine in a few specific games. Instead of spending big now, consider upgrading your GPU if you're looking to boost your gaming experience.
