Hey everyone, I'm currently using a 12700K with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and an RTX 5070. I'm considering upgrading to a 7800X3D and I've calculated it would cost me around $200 after selling my current CPU and motherboard. My main concern is whether this upgrade will really give me a noticeable performance boost. Since I use air cooling, I'm not looking to move to a 14600K. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂

Check out benchmarks for the specific games you play. Personally, I’d say the upgrade is worthwhile!
Yeah, considering you can later upgrade to something like an 11800X3D, it's worth it, especially since AMD chips tend to produce less heat than Intel. Just make sure to check out the latest critiques on Intel CPUs before you spend.
If you're only spending $200, it's absolutely worth it! Just curious, how did you come up with that price for the upgrade?
I don't think it's worth it.
If you can swing the $200, go for it. Just remember, the 12700K is still a strong CPU!
What kind of air cooler do you have? The 14700K can be easily air-cooled with good options like Noctua or Cooler Master, which could save you some cash and avoid a motherboard swap.
The FPS improvement will depend on several factors like your monitor, the games you play, and your settings. That said, you'll likely notice a decent increase in the 1% lows across most situations. However, the RTX 5070 is a bit of a bottleneck, so the benefits may be minimal depending on how you game—still, your 12700K is already pretty capable. Also, don't rule out the 14600K just because of your cooler; a lot of people manage just fine with air cooling on those chips.
The 12700K isn't overly power-hungry, so if you primarily game, cooling shouldn't be an issue.
Definitely, it's a solid upgrade. You'll see performance gains!
In what scenarios is it better to air cool instead of going for an AIO?
