Is Upgrading from a 3700X to a 5800XT Worth It for Gaming?

I've been really satisfied with the performance of my Ryzen 3700X for work-related tasks, but I've been feeling like my gaming experience could use a significant boost. I'm considering whether the 5800XT would be a worthwhile upgrade from my current setup. What do you all think?

Upgrading to a 5800XT is likely to give you around a 15-25% boost in gaming performance. It's an improvement over the 3000 series, but not as dramatic as moving from a 5000 series to a 5000X3D chip.

I swapped my 3600 for a 5600X at a good price and it’s been perfect for now. Waiting to upgrade to AM5 next year has its own benefits. The AM4 X3D chips are overpriced unless you get lucky with a deal.

If you're strapped for cash, maybe hold off until you can afford a jump to AM5 or a high-end X3D. Those chips have a lot to offer, particularly with games that benefit from 3D V-cache. You'll get more performance bang for your buck in the long run.

If you’re looking at a reasonable price for the 5800XT (around $120-$140), it could be worth it. Pair that with selling your 3700X, and it could end up being a solid performance jump for you.

Since you're playing at 1440p with a 2070 Super, you might find yourself GPU bottlenecked more than CPU bottlenecked. Upgrading your GPU might be a better move before considering CPU upgrades. The 5800XT will perform better, but if the rest of your system is holding back, you won't see the full benefits.

Honestly, sticking with the AM4 platform isn't the best idea these days. The prices on 5800X3D or 5700X3D are pretty steep right now, and there are better options out there.

I hear you, but I'm not in a position to invest in a whole new mobo, RAM, and CPU just yet.

If you can save up for AM5, that could be more beneficial long-term. You have many options, including future upgrades with x3D chips.
