I'm currently using a 4070 Super and I'm considering an upgrade to get more VRAM. I primarily play games at 1440p and am looking for good performance. Would it be wise to invest in a 7900 XTX?

First off, are you actually hitting VRAM limits with your current setup? If you’re not running out of VRAM during gaming, sticking with the 4070 Super might be fine for now.
If you need more VRAM for local LLMs, then the XTX could be a propitious choice due to its 24GB, especially for running larger models. Just know that it won't be as speedy as high-end Nvidia cards because of CUDA's dominance. But for gaming, the XTX is still a powerhouse and would make the most of your 1440p monitor.
The 7900 XTX does look appealing with its 24GB of VRAM, but keep in mind AMD's software support hasn't been as strong. While it’s a powerful card, it feels like it might be outdated soon since it hasn't received the latest software updates that could take advantage of its capabilities. On the flip side, Nvidia is doing better at supporting their cards with new features, which could be a key factor if you want longevity.

True! For LLMs, Nvidia might still be your best bet overall, especially with something like the 3090. Even a 4090 isn’t that much faster and has the same 24GB. But keep in mind, for the price of a 4090, you could grab two 16GB cards which might give you better performance for certain models.
