My PC Won’t Boot After Upgrading to a New GPU: What Can I Do?

I recently upgraded my graphics card from an RTX 3050 to a Zotac 5060. Initially, everything seemed fine, and I was able to log into Windows 11, but one of my monitors wasn't working. After some tinkering, both monitors went black. Now, when I try to restart, the PC POSTs but doesn't boot to Windows—just shows 'diagnosing PC' and sends me to the recovery menu. I've reseated the 5060 multiple times, but it still ends up in this loop. I'm hesitant to try other options because I worry I might delete important files. Interestingly, the motherboard lights change from red-orange to white during boot, but they went directly to white before. Any advice on what to do?

It sounds like a tricky situation! First, have you considered putting the old 3050 back in? Sometimes going back to a stable setup can help determine if the new GPU is causing the issue. If it boots up fine with the 3050, you might want to uninstall the 5060's drivers before trying to reinstall it. Just a thought!

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn’t think of that but I’ll give it a shot tomorrow. It’s been pretty stressful dealing with this!

Definitely try that, just make sure to connect your monitor back to the motherboard when you test the 3050.

From what you've described, it could be a power issue as well. You mentioned daisy-chaining the 6+2 connectors from the PSU. Make sure you're using the proper connectors for your 5060 because improper power could cause it to malfunction when booting. Double-checking that could save you some headaches!

I did use the middle 6+2 connector initially, so I’ll test that out too. Thanks for the heads up!

Also, I noticed that the Zotac 5060 has a warning about using it with listed ITE devices near the PCIe slot. Have you checked if your motherboard is on that list? Sometimes compatibility issues can cause problems like this.
