Hey everyone! I'm currently running a 7800X3D along with an RTX 4090 for 1440p gaming. I came across a 9800X3D for around $300 and I'm wondering if it's a smart upgrade. Any thoughts or experiences on whether it's worth it?

When I upgraded from a 7800X3D to the 9800X3D, I didn’t notice any measurable improvement in most games—definitely not worth the investment unless you’re aiming for something very specific like competitive gaming tweaks.

Good to know! Was this at 4K by any chance?

Yeah, I’m mainly at 1440p, so that’s good to hear!

Honestly, it’s probably not worth it if you’re just looking at value. The performance difference is minimal, like less than 5% in many cases. If you can manage to keep your current setup running well, you're likely better off holding on to it unless you have a specific reason to upgrade, like for a different gaming experience.

Makes sense! I'm still rocking my old setup and just looking to maximize what I have.

Totally agree, sometimes patience is key!

If your 7800X3D isn't giving you issues, there's no need to upgrade. With today's market, it's really hard to justify spending money on a modest improvement, especially when newer generations are just around the corner.

Right? I’d rather save for the next big thing in the CPU space.

Exactly, thinking that way. Planning to hold off for now!

In Flight Simulator, I did see a difference, but for general gaming, the 7800X3D is still strong. I’d say consider keeping your current setup unless you're looking to dive into specific titles.

Interesting point! I mostly play competitive shooters.

Yeah, I mostly do too, so that solidifies my decision.
