I'm pondering whether it makes sense to upgrade from my current 9700X processor to the new 9800X3D. I'm also planning to switch my motherboard from a B650 to an X870. Given the price tag of around $800 for this upgrade, is it really worth it?

Honestly, if your main concern is gaming, you shouldn’t rush to upgrade your motherboard. The B650 does the job just fine, and the X870 doesn't offer much more for most gamers.
I'd hold off on that upgrade. Wait for the 10800X3D. You can probably tune your 9700X for more performance, too; there's still some power left to unlock.
I already tuned it with some guides, using 64GB of 6400MT RAM, so I think I have it set up right.
It really depends on your gaming preferences. But in general, there's not much benefit in moving to the X870 from the B650.
Yeah, my Asrock board seems to be a concern for the compatibility.
Most folks say sticking with a B650 is fine if you're mainly gaming. Your 9700X is a solid CPU already. Unless you're going for maximum FPS in competitive games, you probably don't need the upgrade.
I game a lot of sim and strategy titles, though. I'm hearing that my current Asrock board may not be ideal for the 9800X3D.
I wouldn't upgrade to the 9800X3D if I were you. I have a 12900K and looked into the 9800X3D after seeing benchmarks but found that the performance gains are often overstated. I'd suggest considering a better GPU instead, as AMD CPUs like yours are pretty solid for gaming right now!
My current setup is fine; I just have a 5070TI and thought upgrading could future-proof my system.
You might see a better performance jump from the CPU, but only upgrade your motherboard if it has features your current one lacks. Don't jump the gun just yet!
I hear that my Asrock mobo isn't suited for the 9800X3D.

I've read that since I have an Asrock board, it could be risky going with the 9800X3D.
