I'm considering an upgrade from my Intel i7-8700k. I mainly game at 1440p and plan to keep my current RTX 3080. I'm looking at pairing a Ryzen 9 9800x3d with a Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WiFi 7 and some Trident Z Neo RGB 2x16GB 6000MT CL30-38-38-96 RAM. Is there anything else I should think about before purchasing? Do you think the $1100 price tag is justified for this upgrade?

$1100 sounds pretty steep when you can get an entire setup from Costco for about $1500 that includes the same CPU and 32GB of RAM. I'd reconsider if you really need to spend that much to get decent performance.
Honestly, it might not be worth it with your 3080 at 1440p. You could easily reuse your current RAM, and for a fraction of that price, you could grab an Intel CPU that's still solid for gaming. Plus, look into RAM alternatives; that Trident kit seems to be in high demand right now.
If I switched to an 11700k, could I still use my existing motherboard? I'm also considering going for a 14700k with a new board but keeping DDR4.

I know, right? That price for RAM alone is just crazy as well!
