Is Upgrading from an i3 13100 to an i5 13400f Worth It If I Can Break Even?

Hey everyone! I've got a Dell prebuilt that came with an i3 13100. I built a new gaming rig using that processor, but I was thinking about swapping it back to the Dell and selling it. My plan is to use the proceeds to buy an i5 13400f, which would fit in the same motherboard and let me break even on the costs. Do you think it's worth the time and effort to upgrade? Just a heads up, I'm mainly playing some older or less demanding games in 4K with an RX 6700 XT.

Honestly, I think it would be worth it to upgrade to the i5.

I’m not sure. E-cores and older games don’t mix well. A 12100 would probably handle your needs just fine for those games.

Switching from a 4/8 CPU to a 10/16 one means you’ll definitely see improvements in multi-threaded applications. As for single-core performance, the 13400 should be better, but it's hard to quantify how much. Ultimately, it all comes down to how much you value your time and effort.

I honestly feel a bit lazy about doing the swap, but I think having an i5 will help when I sell the PC later.

You might want to consider going for a higher tier CPU from the 12th gen, like the 12700 or even the 12900, if the prices are right. They're actually better than the 13400f.

I just made the jump from a 4790k to a 12700kf, and it's been totally worth it! No issues at all.
