Is Upgrading from i5 9600k to i9 9900k Worth It for Battlefield 6?

Hey everyone! I've got a gaming PC with an i5 9600k processor and an RTX 3070 Ti, powered by a 600-watt PSU. I've been playing the open beta for Battlefield 6, and honestly, the performance hasn't been great, even on low settings. It seems like my CPU is the weak link when it comes to handling this game.

I'm looking to upgrade my processor on a budget, as I plan to overhaul my entire PC in the next couple of years. Right now, I'm considering getting an i9 9900k for 200 euros. I'm curious if the performance boost for Battlefield 6 would be noticeable with this upgrade.

I've also seen some people suggesting that an i5 12600k might be a better choice, but it's a bit pricier since I'd need a new motherboard and a higher wattage PSU, putting me around 100 euros over budget.

So, what do you think? Is the performance difference between the i9 9900k and the i5 12600k significant enough for a game like Battlefield 6? Do you think that extra 100 euros is worth it? Looking forward to your thoughts!

If it fits the budget, go for a more modern CPU like the i5 12600k or even an AM5 setup. I’ve been using an i7 14700k with multiple GPUs and a 650w PSU, and it works fine. Your PSU shouldn’t be an issue for the 12600k either!

If you're gaming at 1080p, the i9 9900k will give you a decent boost, but you might still hit a CPU bottleneck. You could sell your current i5 for about 60-65 euros and recoup some cash. Just a heads up, the current market price for a 9900k is usually around 250+ dollars, so the deal seems pretty good. However, if you’re mainly focused on Battlefield 6, consider how long you're planning to use it. This upgrade might be more short-term than ideal.

I usually play at 1440p, and I still see that bottleneck. Just something to think about!

Honestly, the i9 9900k isn't a game-changer for 200 euros. I'd recommend the i5 12600k instead. Yes, it’s an extra 100 euros for a PSU, but in terms of performance and future-proofing, that’s probably worth it. Your current PSU should be fine for a 12600k setup anyway.

Thanks for your input! If the i9 can get me stable 60 fps on low settings in BF6, I'd think about it, but if I need the i5 for 60 fps, I might just do that.
