I'm considering upgrading my PC after 7 years and I want to know if switching from an Intel i9 10850K to a Ryzen 7 9700X is a good choice. I often feel overwhelmed by all the specs and details. My main uses are gaming and video/photo editing using Adobe software. Any insights would be great!

Honestly, your i9 10850K is still a strong CPU. If it's performing well for your needs, I'd recommend holding off on the upgrade for now if you're not experiencing any issues. You’re still getting solid performance from your current setup!
Definitely consider upgrading! The Ryzen 7 9700X will give you a noticeable boost in performance for gaming and video editing compared to your i9. So if you're looking for an upgrade, it's worth it!
Upgrading to the Ryzen 7 9700X is a solid choice, but keep in mind that you'll need to get a new motherboard and possibly new RAM. If you're also into photo and video editing, you might want to check out the Intel i7-14700K; it's quite powerful for those tasks too. Both require new motherboards, however, RAM might be optional for the Intel option. Just make sure you're investing a bit more in your motherboard for better performance overall! Here are some good setups if you're interested in specifics!

Just a heads up, if you're going for the i7-14700K, you'll want a DDR4 motherboard that can still work with your current RAM. But if you're starting fresh, skipping the old RAM for DDR5 makes a lot more sense!
