Is Upgrading From R5 5600G to R7 5700X3D a Good Move for Gaming and Productivity?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5600G in my gaming setup, paired with an RX 6700XT. While the CPU serves me well for both gaming and productivity tasks, I'm considering an upgrade to either the Ryzen 7 5800X3D or 5700X3D when I find one available on Amazon. However, I've heard these CPUs are mainly for gaming and I'm curious if they would also be good for using software like Filmora, FL Studio, and Davinci Resolve, as well as browsing with Opera GX. I mostly play PS5 games that have been ported to PC, as I don't own a PS5 yet, and I currently game at 1080p, with the potential to move to 1440p in the future. Should I stick with the 5800/5700 X3Ds for a balance between gaming and productivity, or is there another CPU I should consider? What should I look for to ensure good performance in both areas? Thanks!

I have a 5600X with a 6750XT, and I’m planning to stick with it for at least a couple of years while gaming at 1440p. Honestly, you might not need to rush to upgrade unless you’re struggling with performance.

You might be better off saving for an AM5 upgrade down the line instead of spending now just to get the 5700X3D.

The 5700X3D could be beneficial for CPU-heavy games, especially with 8 cores. If you need more cores, the 5900XT might be worth checking out, but don't expect as much performance gain as the X3D offers.

I faced the same dilemma and opted for the 5900XT instead of the 5700X3D. I'm happy with it, but you might want to consider the 5700X if you still prefer to upgrade your current setup instead of making a big leap.

The 5700X3D is likely discontinued, so unless you find a used one at a reasonable cost, it's probably not worth chasing after. You could look into AM5 CPUs instead; even the entry-level models are performing well in most games, making them a better investment for the future. Right now, you shouldn't be spending $270 on a 5700X3D in 2025. Just save up for AM5!

Sure, but going to AM5 might be pricier than just getting the 5700X3D now. Waiting for AM6 might even be a better bet since AM5 isn't really the end game.

Do you have a source for the discontinuation? I can’t find anything about that. Over here, it’s still around €220.

I scored my X3D for just $150 with shipping from AliExpress, and I run 32GB of RAM. I haven’t had issues gaming while running YouTube and Discord simultaneously. I don’t use Spotify, but I assume it’s similar in resource usage to Opera GX.
