Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 9 5900X and GTX 1080 to RTX 5070 Worth It?

I'm planning to upgrade my current PC setup as follows:
- Current Specs: MSI B550M Bazooka motherboard, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 cooler, GTX 1080 GPU, 16GB RAM, and a 750W EVGA SuperNOVA GT PSU.
- Upgrade Specs: Ryzen 9 5900X CPU and RTX 5070 GPU.
I've heard the total cost for these upgrades will be about $800, which fits my budget. I'm wondering if this CPU and GPU combo is a good match? Is my power supply sufficient for this upgrade? And will these components remain relevant for at least five years until I do a complete motherboard rebuild?

If you're aiming for a budget-friendly upgrade, the Ryzen 5700X might be a good pick. It’s likely to be cheaper with minimal performance loss compared to the 5900X.

For gaming, you might want to consider the Ryzen 5800X or even the 5800XT instead of the 5900X. They usually cost less but perform almost as well. Your PSU should handle the upgrade without issues, just remember to update your motherboard's BIOS before swapping out the CPU.

It ultimately depends on your intended use. If gaming is your goal, a 5600XT or 5800XT would be great alternatives—both pack significant performance improvements over the 3600 and save you a ton of cash compared to the 5900X. If you're into things like Blender, then maybe the 5900X justifies the cost.

Before you dive into the upgrade, what's your usual use for the PC? The Ryzen 9 5900X isn't necessarily the best choice if gaming is your main focus.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking to game. I've heard the Ryzen 7 5800X might be better for older setups, but it's pretty pricey.

What about the Ryzen 5700X3D? It could offer some extra performance, but I get that it's more expensive. Stick with the standard X version if budget is tight, though!

As much as I'd like the extra power from the x3D, it's outside my budget. The X version is a much easier buy for me.
