Is Upgrading from Ryzen 7 3800X to 5700X3D or 5800X3D Worth It for Gaming?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 3800X at 4.2GHz and I'm really interested in improving my gaming setup, particularly for VR sim racing and sim flight. I'm debating whether I should upgrade to either the Ryzen 7 5700X3D or the 5800X3D. I've found some comparisons online suggesting a 10% performance increase with the 5700 and over 20% with the 5800. A 10% boost doesn't sound worth the hassle, but a potential 20% improvement has me curious, especially since I'm considering the cost, which is around $300-400. How much smoother can I expect my gameplay to be with this upgrade?

It really depends on the benchmarking data of the games you play. If the CPU comparison tool you used didn't factor in gaming data, you might be getting misleading info. Generally, in gaming scenarios, the 5700X3D and 5800X3D can be around 40% faster than the 3800X when the CPU is the bottleneck. Just look for specific benchmarks for the games you're into! When considering upgrades, don’t forget the total cost of shifting to AM5, which could be an option too if you consider the motherboard and RAM you’ll need.

Wow, that makes me feel a lot better about the upgrade! If I'm really looking at a 40% performance boost, it’s definitely worth it. And you're right about the RAM thing; I only grabbed the 128GB since it was a steal during a sale!
