I'm running a new RTX 5070 Ti with 16GB of DDR4 and an Intel i5 12600K. Everything runs really well generally, but I experience stuttering during some games, especially when CPU and RAM usage spike to around 100%. The GPU usage doesn't usually get that high. I'm already waiting on a 32GB DDR4 upgrade, but I'm also thinking about switching to an i7 14600K. I've spent quite a bit already and just want a smooth gaming experience for years to come. If upgrading the CPU only yields a small FPS boost or if the stuttering is due to other issues, I'd rather not invest more money.

If you're on DDR4, it might be worth checking for a deal on a better LGA 1700 CPU. The 12600K is decent, but its raw performance might not be the root cause of your issues.
Just remember that the 12600K is slightly below what some games recommend for optimal performance, especially at higher resolutions. Just keep that in mind while upgrading!
I faced similar issues with my setup back in 2018. I upgraded to an AM5 rig with 32GB of DDR5 and a 9800x3d CPU, and it completely resolved the stuttering. If you’re looking for longevity, I'd suggest going for the 9800x3d and an AM5 build, although it will be quite an expense!
It really depends on your budget and the specific games where you're seeing those stutters. It's pretty uncommon for modern CPUs to run near 100% across all threads during gaming. If you see consistent 90%+ usage in task manager, there's likely another issue at play. Most games won't push your CPU that hard.
In a few games I have, like Arc Raiders, the CPU usage peaks at around 60-80%. But I notice stuttering, especially in places like the Vatican in Indiana Jones. It's confusing, especially considering my GPU is showing higher usage during smooth spots. If I spend $750 on a GPU, I expect a fantastic experience!
I’ve got DDR4 and right now I can snag an i7 14600K for about $350. I feel like the 12600K isn’t meeting the recommended specs for some newer titles, especially since I like to play at 1440p on ultra settings!
Upgrading from the 12600K to the 14600K isn't a massive leap. If your RAM usage is constantly maxed out, then yes, adding more RAM will help. Install that new RAM and see how your performance changes before considering a CPU upgrade.
You really shouldn’t be experiencing stutters at this level. Check your motherboard model and make sure you're on the latest BIOS. Upgrading to the i7 14600K would definitely be worth it, but don’t forget to use an SSD for your modern AAA games. Also, enable XMP for your RAM if you haven’t — that can boost your performance. Consider running Memtest86 to check your RAM stability too!
I’m now using XMP, and it did help a bit, but I'm still experiencing stuttering. My motherboard's BIOS is up to date, and I had to replace my old PSU after issues with my 5070 Ti. After running some benchmarks, I'm just below average, so I don’t think it’s damaged.

Got it — yeah, I'm looking at a deal on that i7 14600K. I want to see if that helps.
